Adult Pottery Course Descriptions:

101: Wheel and Hand Building
Beginner to Intermediate

During this 6 week course, your qualified instructor will teach you the following:
How to:

• Prepare clay to attach and centre on the wheel
• Make the classic shapes from which all future pieces are developed; cylinder, plate, bowl
• Hand build a plate, sculpt, build a mug without using the wheel
• Hand build successfully; how to create pottery that is at lower risk of blowing up in the kiln, how to make strong connections.
• Professionally finish your pottery including how to form a professional looking handle
• Paint your pottery using glaze
• Coat your pottery with glaze by dipping
• Decorate your pottery before it is fired the first time

​This is a "split" class; during the 3 hours you will spend about 1.5 hours of practical time on the wheel and 1 hour hand building each week. This course gives you a good intro to working with clay on and off the wheel, next you can decide which you would like to spend more time on: wheel or hand building (see pottery 102, 103 and 104)

​What is included:

• 10 kg bag of stoneware clay and all your tools. 
• 20 different glaze colours to choose from
• Glaze firing of your favourite pieces that fit into 1 cubic square foot of the kiln

*extra pieces quoted by how much space they take up in the kiln: bisque firing included. Extra glaze firing is $25/cu. sq. Ft.  Payable by Etransfer before pickup.

102: Wheel Course
​Beginner to Intermediate

• Prepare clay for throwing and centring on the wheel
• Make the classic shapes from which all future pieces are developed; cylinder, plate, bowl
• Lidded pieces that are made to fit well into each other 
• Pouring vessels
• Gradually increasing the amount of clay
• Professionally finish your pottery including how to form a professional looking handle
• Paint your pottery using glaze
• Coat your pottery with glaze by dipping

What is included:

• stoneware clay and all your tools. 
• 20 different glaze colours to choose from
• Glaze firing of your favourite pieces that fit into 1 cubic square foot of the kiln

Glaze Club
Pre-requisite; 101 Course

Get together once every 2 months to get your pottery glazed!  
This is for you if:

• You have taken Pottery 101 with Sculption School of Pottery
• You've got a set up at home, perhaps you are hand building or have a wheel and need a place to access glaze and get your pottery fired! This is a great way to get together once a month with other clay enthusiasts and compare notes or just get your pottery done!

What's included:

• Bisque firing (drop off your pottery by the Wednesday before the glaze night) - up to 1 cu. ft (after this amount of space in the kiln extra charges apply) 
• More than 20 different food safe glazes to brush on
• 5 food safe dip/pour glazes
• Brushes and other glaze supplies such as wax
• Glaze firing (allow up to 3 weeks to get your pottery back from being fired) - up to 1 cu. ft of work(after this amount of space in the kiln extra charges apply) 
• 3 hour glazing time
